Luís Filipe Cunha is a PhD Student at the University of Porto and an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Minho. He is a researcher at LIAAD INESC TEC, the Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Lab of U. Porto. He enrolled in the BSc in Computer Science at the University of Minho in 2016. In 2022, he completed his master's degree in Computer Engineering with the thesis "NER in Archival Descriptions," leading to the publication of 4 articles on the application of ML techniques for extracting semantic knowledge from Portuguese archival documents. During his degree, he developed several projects, including NER@DI, accessible at http://ner.epl.di.uminho.pt/. This web platform facilitates annotating and extracting Named Entities from Portuguese archival documents. Since February 2022, Luís Filipe Cunha is an Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics at the Universidade do Minho, where he is teaching Natural Language Processing in the Masters in Computer Engineering and the Masters of Biomedical Engineering. In September 2022, he started his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Porto, focusing on "Document Level Event Extraction from Narratives". This research focuses on developing AI models for extracting events from natural text, contributing to narrative extraction and automatic language understanding. This PhD is framed within the scope of an FCT project (StorySense). During his PhD, he has already published one paper at EPIA 2023, which received the Best Student Paper Award, has contributed to another paper at ECIR 2024 (core A) which received the Best Demo Paper Award and had a resource paper accepted at SIGIR 2024 (CORE A*). He has also published a textual resource focused on the Event Extraction task for Portuguese, named ACE-2005-PT, which was accepted for publication by the Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) in their repository. This resource represents a significant contribution to the Event Extraction task in Portuguese, as very limited resources are available for this task in this language.
