Ana Bernardo Seara Cardoso

I hold a PhD in Psychology from University College London (UCL). At UCL, under the supervision of Prof. Essi Viding and Prof. Jonathan Roiser, I started to develop my research on the neurobiological basis of complex social processes and how dysfunction in these processes may be linked to persistent antisocial behaviour. After my PhD, I continued my research as a postdoctoral and junior researcher with Prof. Essi Viding and Prof. Adriana Sampaio at the PsychologicalNeuroscience Lab of Centro de Investigação em Psicologia (CIPsi, Escola de Psicologia, University of Minho). My research focuses on the study of the neurobiological basis of complex social processes and how dysfunction in these processes may be linked to persistent antisocial behaviour. I am particularly interested in understanding how neurocognitive correlates of empathy and morality develop from childhood to adulthood, and how variability in these neurocognitive correlates is linked to antisocial behaviour in general and the development of psychopathy and antisocial personality disorder in particular. In my research, I employ a variety of cognitive experimental and neuroimaging techniques, including functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (s/fMRI). Since February 2022, I also served as the scientific manager of CIPsi, where I aim to create the best possible framework conditions for scientific research.
