Currently, I am a PhD Student in Biology at NOVA School of Science and Technology. My work consists in studying an O-glycan, Sialyl-Tn, as a potential therapeutic target for pancreatic cancer. This work is funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (ref. 2024.05577.BD) and started in November 2024. Previously, I worked as a Quality Control (QC) Assistant at GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals, a contract manufacturing organization based in Oeiras, Portugal, that was recently acquired by Recipharm and integrated in ReciBioPharm business unit. In this work, I participated in the quality control of in-process control samples and final products to be used in early stage drug development, pre-clinical studies and Phase I to Phase III clinical trials, which comprises physico-chemical analyses, microbiological analyses, cell-based assays and nucleic acid analyses according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). In addition, I performed other QC routine tasks, such as environmental monitoring of production cleanroom areas and Water for Injection (WFI) sampling and analysis. Furthermore, I had an active role in QC documentation preparation and frequently leaded investigations related to QC deviations. From September 2016 to December 2021, I attended the Integrated Master’s in Biological Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon. This 5-year course provided me with a solid background on Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering, while having a strong laboratory component. My master’s thesis, entitled “Cardiac Differentiation of Human Induced Pluripotent Cells in Vertical-Wheel Reactors" was carried out at Stem Cell Engineering Research Group (SCERG) of the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB). In this work, I studied the influence of bioprocess parameters in the process costs of the production of cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) using Vertical-Wheel bioreactors. For this purpose, I developed a bioprocess economic model using Python. In addition, in the laboratory, I studied the impact of different expansion and differentiation medium in the differentiation efficiency of hiPSCs into cardiomyocytes. At the end of this work, I published 1 article, entitled “Bioprocess Economic Modeling: Decision Support Tools for the Development of Stem Cell Therapy Products”, in Bioengineering journal. From March 2022 to June 2022, I have worked in Renova S.A as a laboratory intern, where I used to analyse the mechanical and physical properties of tissue paper and perform the quality control of final products and raw materials (e.g paper pulp). In June 2022, I started working as a QC Trainee at GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals and I was promoted as a QC Assistant in June 2023.
