I obtained a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the University of Aveiro (UA, 2021) during which I acquired various fundamental concepts and gained practical laboratory experience, which motivated me to enrol a final project focused on the development of novel epigenetic drugs for cancer therapy, with a final grade of 18/20. Due to my strong interest in biomaterials and regenerative medicine, I continued my academic path, pursuing a master’s degree in molecular biotechnology and bioengineering (UA, 2023). The dissertation - developed at CICECO (UA) - was focused on the creation of new photocrosslinkable inks composed of natural polymers, including human-derived proteins (platelet lysates), for 3D printing applications, in which I obtained a final grade of 18/20. Through this work, I gained knowledge and practical experience in protein and polysaccharide modification, cell culture procedures, imaging techniques and in the use of 3D printing technologies. Still during my master’s, in 2023, I was the recipient of a research grant in the scope of a large European project (H2020 InterLynk), in which I worked under the supervision of Prof. João Mano and Dr. Rita Almeida. In this project, I continued to develop inks from natural-based materials, including blood-derived components envisioning patient-specific personalized therapies. Currently, I am a research fellow at CICECO (UA) funded by a research grant under the same project, where I am continuing the work I've been developing under the same supervision team. I am also looking forward to obtain a PhD grant to further broaden my research skills. I am the first author and presenter of three scientific communications, two of which presented at an international conference (SupraLife). Recently, I published my first scientific review article to Biomaterials Advances. Alongside the academic path, I also attended workshops and conferences and I was engaged in different extracurricular activities, which further enhanced my hard and soft skills. Overall, this journey, so far, has given me tools and a strong motivation to pursue a career in medical science and technology, particularly tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, fields that align with my research interests.
