Dora Pontinha graduated in Chemistry from University of Coimbra in 2005, achieving the prize award of Best Student in Chemistry 2004/2005. DP obtained her Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, specialization Biochemical Technology with "Redox mechanisms of drugs and in situ electrochemical detection of DNA damage" from University of Coimbra, in 2012. In 2010 DP performed a short-term internship at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Eugenio Uriarte. After finishing the PhD, she worked for 20 months in IPN, doing research in electrochemistry. Her research involved the study of electron transfer reactions of compounds of biological interest and the development of enzymes and DNA biosensors. DP was a post-doc researcher between 2017-1018 at the Photochemistry Group which makes part of the Coimbra Chemistry Center. She joined the group to be responsible for the electrochemistry area of SunStorage Project. Between 2019-2022, she worked in a project linking climate changes and energy efficiency, TYRE4BUILDINS. The project focused on the development of innovative materials - aerogels and their composites, produced using supercritical fluid technology. These materials have significant potential for applications in CO2 capture and energy-efficient building solution. She has submitted 1 EPO patent, chosen to represent the UC at the Hannover Mess (Germany, 2022), the world's largest industry trade fair. DP worked at IPN-LEC between 2022-2023 doing research on development of bioelectrochemical systems and studying new materials and processes for biomedical applications. Since 2023, she is a full member and Researcher at the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE) - UC and Energy and Sustainability Centre Manager at SeaPower. She is also Invited Assistant Professor at Chemistry Department - UC. DP has 25 papers in peer-reviewed journals, published 23 papers and 2 in preparation (45% as first author; 38% without PhD supervisor; 3 articles was a corresponding author), achieving 423 citations, a h-index of 12 (by Scopus), an i10 of 15 (by Google Scholar), and inventor of 1 EPO patent. She has papers in collaboration with researchers from several international institutions such as Czech Republic, Spain, United Kingdom, Finland and Switzerland. She reviewed articles for distinct journals, as Sensors, Materials in Civil Engineering and Gels . She is Guest-Editor of 3 Special Issues "Sol-Gel Derived Nanostructured Materials with Innovative Characteristics and Diversified Applications" (Molecules), "Biomaterials for Biosensing and Other Biomedical Applications" (International Journal of Molecular Sciences) and Molecular Advances in Bioelectrochemistry (International Journal of Molecular Sciences). DP was a team member of 10 R&D projects directly funded by FCT and/or European funding's. DP organized the workshop "Towards Solar Energy Storage" (2018), the Annual Meeting CIEPQPF (2021), the webinar "Sustainable silica-based nanomaterials for thermal protection systems" (2022) and she organised several scientific events focused on high school and PhD students. She presented 36 communications in international/national conferences/seminars. DP supervised and co-supervised the laboratorial work of 14 students. DP was a M.Sc. degree supervisor between 2019-2022 (UC). She participated as jury of 2 M.Sc. thesis (UC) and she was arguer of 1 M.Sc. degree in University of Coimbra. DP gathered experience in using different techniques, including electrochemical techniques (e.g. CV, DPV SWV, EIS, PEC), atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, wet contact angle, mechanical tests by compression, tensile and bending, thermal conductivity, thermogravimetric analysis, high performance liquid chromatography and photophysical and spectroscopic techniques. She also has knowledge on LCA and LCC.
