João A. Rodrigues is a Researcher at CICECO - University of Aveiro, as part of the project "BetterBone: Metabolite-activated 3D stem cell differentiation into bone". My main activities are related with the use omics (metabolomics and proteomics) to identify: i) the most relevant osteoinductive metabolites that will ensure the predominance of osteoblast-like cells; and ii) metabolites that can effectively stimulate osteogenic differentiation in 3D cultures. I am also working on the application of omics strategies to obtain comprehensive biological understanding of the impact of exposure to chemical stressors; and ii) food quality assessment. Additionally, I work on the development and implementation of analytical protocols towards the quantification of specific metabolites. Previously, he was a Researcher at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) - University of Coimbra until 2021 (2019-2021), in the field of omics strategies (proteomics and metabolomics) applied to the identification of biomarkers and early detection of psychiatric disorders. Also worked as post-doc in EPAL S.A. (2016-2019, in the development, validation and implementation of quantification protocols to measure emerging contaminants present in urban water cycle); and in CICECO and iBiMED - University of Aveiro (2013-2015, use of metabolomics strategies to assess the metabolic effects of potential therapeutic agents for Alzheimer´s disease). He received the PhD degree in Chemistry from University of Aveiro in 2011; and Licenciatura degree in Technological Chemistry, from Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) in 2004. Presently, his main research interests and activities are focus on: i) application of omics strategies to obtain comprehensive biological understanding of the impact of exposure to stressors and/or specific perturbations and the identification of potential biomarkers; ii) identification of specific biomarkers and early detection of psychiatric and neurological disorders making use of proteomics and metabolomics strategies; iii) metabolomics applied to food quality control; iv) development, validation and implementation of quantification protocols in environmental, food and human health studies; v) assessment of water quality parameters and development of new technological strategies to improve organic contaminants removal ability in urban water treatment; and vi) occurrence and fate of emerging contaminants and their potential impact in the environment and human health. João A. Rodrigues published 29 articles in ISI-index journals, 74% in Q1 journals, with > 488 citations (h-index 11, source: Scopus). He is co-author of 3 book chapters and 1 international conference paper. He also presented 10 poster and had 6 oral presentations in International Conferences. João A. Rodrigues participated in three research projects with competitive funding. He is/has supervised four MSc and one 1st cycle degree students, and was invited as external arguer in six MSc dissertations. He has previous teaching experiences in University of Aveiro and was invited as lecturer in four courses related with the use of bioinformatics tools for comprehensive omics data analysis. Additionally, Joao A. Rodrigues has been active in organizing scientific events including three workshops, reviewer for several Journals and science dissemination activities such as 2021 and 2023 European Researchers' Night and Youth Olympics - Chemistry.
