I hold two degrees, one in Zootechny and another in Agronomy from the Santarém Polytechnic Institute, along with a Master’s in Conservation Biology from Évora University. My research has focused on the effects of the application of mulch/biochar on the improvement of degraded agricultural soils. Additionally, I have explored the use of biochar to increase the carbon sink capacity of soils, by assessing carbon stocks and fluxes. My motivation to study this topics derives from my personal experience in managing an agricultural company and my natural curiosity about innovative conservation topics. In my opinion, if we dedicate enough time to the research of biochar, we will find a powerful tool to be used for soil conservation, carbon storage and global warming mitigation.
