Hugo Filipe de Almeida Pires. Completed his Doctorate Degree in Physics in 2015/10/14 at Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and his Master Degree in Technological Physics Engineering in 2008/10/14 by Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico. Worked as a posdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Optics and Photonics Sciences (ICFO) in Barcelona - Spain, in the Attosecond Ultrafast Optics group (AUO) from 2014 to 2015. He is a Postdoc Researcher since 2016 and an Assistant Researcher since 2019 in Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear. He is an Invited Assistant Professor at IST's Physics Department since 2020, and was awarded the "Excellent Teacher" distinction at IST in 2020, 2022 and 2023. He published over 20 articles in journals, supervised four MSc theses, co-supervised one Ph.D. thesis and is supervising one PhD thesis presently. He works in the area of Exact Sciences with emphasis on Physical Sciences, namely on Optics. He acts as a reviewer for manuscripts for journals in the fields of lasers and photonics. The most frequent terms in the context of scientific and technological output are parametric gain; OPCPA; high power lasers; mid-Infrared and ultrashort pulses.

2022/02/15 - Current GoLP_IN is the internship program of GoLP open to all student of IST. Internships consist on the participation over a semester in topics that GoLP researchers submit to calls. The program takes place every semester, has a selection committee, an Onboarding day with soft-skills, and ECTS certification if criteria are met. As coordinator of this program, I am a permanent member of the selection committee, oversee the topic submission and dissemination, and ensure certification eligibility.
