Isabel Ribeiro is Full and Distinguished Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the School of Engineering of the Universidade de Lisboa and affiliated to the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisbon) a member of LARSyS (Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems). She retired in December 2021. She was Director of the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR) from Jan.06 to Jul.07. At ISR conducst R&D work in autonomous robotics. She founded and was responsible for the Mobile Robotics Laboratory (LRM) from 1994 to 2009 which was integrated into the Intelligent and Robots Systems Group in 2010. Her research interests include indoor and outdoor land mobile robot navigation, cooperative robotics and cooperative navigation, mapping and world model and representation. She is the author of 1 book, author/co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, and has supervised 4 PhD students. She leads or is involved in a number of national and international R&D projects in the areas of remote handling for ITER, mobile robotics navigation, environment reconstruction and mobile robotics cooperation. She was the Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee on Intelligent Autonomous Vehicles (2005-2008) and a member of the EURON Education key area. She has been actively involved in R&D and university management activities. She was an adviser to the Board of Directors FCT (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) for the areas of R&D projects and units from 2008 to 2011, and Vice-President of IST for Administrative and Financial Affairs in (2012 and 2013) and for Administrative Modernization (2020-2021). from December 2013 to January 2016, she was an elected member of the School Council of IST, and Vice-President from June 2014 to January 2016. From February 2016 to August 2017 she was a member of the Board of Directors of FCT. She was selected as one of the "Women in Science" by Ciência Viva in 2016, became a Distinguished Professor of IST in 2018 and was elected as a Corresponding Member of the Portuguese Academy of Sciences in 2023.
