In 2024, David F. Carrageta obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at ICBAS - School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto, Portugal. Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher at UMIB (ICBAS, University of Porto) and an Invited Adjunct Professor at Portalegre Polytechnic Institute. In 2023, he was a Visiting Researcher at H. L. Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute (Tampa, FL, USA) for 6 months. David F. Carrageta has received certified specialized training in Proton NMR applied to Metabolomics. He is also certified to design, conduct and lead animal model experiments (FELASA C). David F. Carrageta works in the field of Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Andrology, Endocrinology, and Metabolism. Current research interests comprise the hormonal, metabolic, and ionic (dys)regulation in human male (in)fertility. He is also interested in male infertility as a comorbidity associated with metabolic diseases (obesity and diabetes mellitus). More recently, he is researching the effects of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) hormonal and metabolic dysfunction on spermatozoa physiology and fertilizing ability. Participated as the Principal Investigator in 2 projects funded by the Portuguese Society of Diabetology (2021-2022) and UMIB-ICBAS-UP (2024-ongoing). He also participated as a Research Fellow or Researcher in 4 other funded projects. Published 27 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and 3 book chapters. Co-supervised 2 BSc students and is currently supervising/co-supervising 3 MScs students. Participated in the jury of a MSc’s thesis defense (main arguer). Received 15 awards/honors/grants for his research. He is ad-hoc reviewer in several scientific journals and participates as a scientific journal’s topic coordinator. Participated as a member of the organizing committee in several national and international congresses and workshops. He was the organizer of several health sciences activities for youngsters (high school students). Presented his work as an oral or poster communication in >30 national and international scientific congresses. Bibliometric data (November 2024): 2018 was the first year of publication; number of research articles: 27; citations: 603; h-index = 14; h10 = 17.
