M. João Botelho is a researcher at the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). She received her MSc degree in Chemical Engineering, University of Lisbon in 2009 and a PhD in Environment, New University of Lisbon in 2014. Published 32 articles in peer-reviewed jornals. Her research is focused in fate and pathways of marine toxins, toxin sorption to microplastics and application of sensors to toxin detection. M.J.Botelho is head of the division of Oceanography and Marine Environment and responsible for the National Reference Laboratory of Marine Biotoxins at IPMA and for the national monitoring program of marine biotoxins in bivalves.
