Lia-Tânia Dinis, Researcher at the Department of Agronomy, has a PhD in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. She study the impact of biotic and abiotic stresses on plant physiology, mostly in grapevines. Her research objective is to increase the productivity, quality and sustainability of crops. In addition, she studies new cultural adaptation/mitigation strategies in the context of climate change scenarios. To this end, it operates in field surveillance to monitor photosynthetic behavior (leaf gas exchange/chlorophyll a fluorescence/JIP test), plant water relations (leaf reflectance/leaf water potential/sclerophyllia parameters), growth analysis (vigour, are foliar) and in the laboratory carrying out biochemical analyzes (such as proteins, starch, sugars, pigments, hormonal responses), as well as oxidative and metabolomic stress analyzes (enzymatic and non-enzymatic assays). She has worked as a researcher on 23 research projects, authoring/co-authoring of 58 scientific articles published in international journals and six book chapters. She is also the supervisor/co-supervisor of several doctoral (4) and master's theses (17). She has more than forty oral presentations and more than fifty posters at national and international conferences. She participated as a reviewer of more than fifty scientific articles for publication in international journals. She was a team leader/partner who won 5 awards related to her research. She teaches curricular units on viticulture / sustainable viticulture / vineyard management and monitoring / introduction to oenology in Bachelor's and Master's courses (Agronomic Engineering / Enology). The topics “Physiology of the vine: Photosynthesis, transpiration and respiration processes” were taught; and “Fruit formation: Mechanisms and incidents of flowering, pollination and fertilization, growth and development of fruits” referring to the curricular unit “Fruit development and ripening” of the Intenational Master Vintage.

  2. Kaolin foliar application has a stimulatory effect on phenylpropanoid and flavonoid pathways in grape berries. Drought, elevated air temperature, and high evaporative demand are increasingly frequent during summer in grape growing areas like the Mediterranean basin, limiting grapevine productivity and berry quality. The foliar exogenous application of kaolin, a radiation-reflecting inert mineral, has proven effective in mitigating the negative impacts of these abiotic stresses in grapevine and other fruit. 2016.
