Christina Costa Crisóstomo

Christina Costa Crisóstomo completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry by the University of Minho in 2019 with a final classification of 13 (thirteen). At the end of her course, she executed a scientific project to acquire the Biochemistry degree, where she evaluated the enological properties of Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine strains that was supervised by Dra. Maria João Sousa (Department of Biology, U.Minho). In 2022, she completed her Master in Molecular Genetics at U.Minho with a final classification of 17 (seventeen). Her Master's dissertation entitled “Analysis of antifungal extract production from plants and in vivo assessment of activity” was supervised by Dr. Rui Oliveira and Dra. Ana Cunha (Department of Biology, University of Minho). Since May 2023, she is a research grant holder (BI) at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, working in the subproject “New molecules designed to control critical pests and diseases and biocontrol of vineyard pests”, included in the PRR project Vine&Wine Portugal, funded by the PRR-“Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência" and "European funds NextGeneration EU”. Currently, she is a Scholarship Researcher Member in the Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences (CITAB) of UTAD. She has been attending many scientific events, conferences and workshops to increase her knowledge in several areas of the Biological Sciences field. Furthermore, she has been submitted abstracts to be presented as posters and oral communications in national and international scientific conferences. Recently, one of those posters entitled “In vitro culture as a tool for evaluating the phytotoxic effects of herbicides on Vitis vinifera L.“ presented in the XVI Jornadas de Genética e Biotecnologia | VI Jornadas Ibéricas de Genética y Biotecnología was awarded with a honorable mention. Beyond her work as BI, she also has been contributing for results analyses and writing of manuscripts, related to parallel works that have been developed in the Plant Cytogenomics Laboratory (where she has been working), for further submission to Scopus-indexed international scientific journals. As a result, she will participate as co-author in these articles. In addition, currently she is also co-supervisor of two undergraduate students of the Genetics and Biotechnology Course of UTAD, helping them in the laboratory with their experimental work and results interpretation. Lastly, in the past year, she has been acquiring novel skills and improving her technical, academic and scientific experience and knowledge, Christina has also developed important personal skills such as critical thinking, organization, responsibility, persistence, the ability to adapt to new environments and new research teams and the capability to solve problems.
