My professional career started within the fields of ecotoxicology, marine ecology and environmental monitoring, through the participation, as an undergraduate trainee, in a research project about environmental risk assessment of a contaminated estuarine environment. The willingness to extend my knowledge in these areas of research led me to develop my M.Sc. thesis on the potential effects of contaminated sediments on benthic fish, where I explored issues such as oxidative stress, endocrine disruption and histopathology. I concluded my Integrated Master Program in Environmental Engineering Ecological Engineering Profile, at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT-NOVA, 2013). In the past years (2013-2018), I participated in both national and international research projects about the ecotoxicological effects of microplastics in marine vertebrates and invertebrates, at organ and tissue levels, at MARE-NOVA (Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, FCT-NOVA). I got certified to conduct experimental and other scientific procedures on living animals in 2018. I became highly skilled on histology and histopathology of marine animals, biochemical biomarkers of toxicological and physiological stress, plus planning and executing bioassays with aquatic vertebrates and invertebrates. In 2018, I joined the SeaTox Lab team as a fellow researcher, within the Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit (UCIBIO) at FCT-NOVA (https://sites.fct.unl.pt/seatox), working for Projects GreenTech (Of pigments and toxins: an integrative approach to the biotechnological potential of a marine polychaete) and WormALL (Marine invertebrates as source of novel biotoxins: Investigating function and application through Polychaeta venomics). Here, I have expanded my knowledge on toxicology, molecular biology and exploring new histochemical techniques to search for specific substances with biotechnological potential, especially biomedical. I also have experience at mentoring undergraduate students in our research projects. In January 2020 I started my PhD program in Biotechnology at FCT-NOVA, after being awarded with a grant from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (SFRH/BD/144914/2019), where I am exploring new functions and biotechnological applications of cephalotoxins. My PhD program is framed within The MARVEN Project (The Portuguese biotechnological database for marine animal venoms and toxins, Blue Fund Ref. FA_05_2017_007). Throughout my academic career, I have been awarded with a doctoral grant, 3 research fellowships, published nine SCI research papers, seven as first and corresponding author (plus a few papers in proceedings), nine posters and eleven oral communications in both national and international scientific meetings (four as presenting author). I attained an H-index of 6 with over 150 citations.
