Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism by the Faculty of Architecture of the Federal University of Bahia (FAUFBA, Salvador, Brazil, 1994), Liliane Hobeica followed an unconventional career path. After working with mainstream building projects, she turned her attention to the city and urban-sustainability issues and concentrated her research and practice on slum-upgrading processes, following a broad disciplinary approach. After three master degrees (Urbanism, FAUFBA, 2003; Human Ecology, University of Évora, Portugal, 2003; Social Dynamics, Natural and Technological Risks, University of Coimbra, Portugal, 2010), she concluded in 2018 a PhD in Territory, Risk and Public Policies, also at the University of Coimbra. Her thesis explored the potentials of spatial design as a flood-adaptation tool within urban-riverfront interventions. Since 2019, she is a research collaborator at the Centre of Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon, within the RISKam (Environmental Hazard and Risk Assessment and Management) research group. Her current research interests reflect her transdisciplinary path, comprising the following themes: social dimensions of flood adaptation, community-based resilient design and risk mainstreaming into architectural practices.
