Sara Marçal has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Sciences from the Faculdade de Nutrição e Alimentação da Universidade do Porto since 2014 and a Master in Biotechnology and Innovation from the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, since February 2019. Thus far, she published seven scientific papers in specialized journals and was the author of four oral communications and seventeen posters showcased at national and international congresses. Now, she is finishing a PhD in Biotechnology from the Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina – Laboratório Associado, Escola Superior de Biotecnologia. Her PhD project is about the integrated valorization of mango byproducts by developing multifunctional ingredients. Sara has extensive experience quantifying macro- and micronutrients; determining fiber composition (fiber hydrolysis, neutral sugars identification, and uronic acid quantification); extracting and identifying phytochemical compounds, namely free and bound phenolics, and carotenoids; evaluating fibers' technological properties; and assessing antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. Additionally, she has basic experience using FTIR for [specific applications or analyses] and is familiar with SEM operation and image analysis for [specific purposes or materials]. Finally, she has extensive statistical knowledge in planning, performing, and analyzing experimental designs.
