Miguel Angelo Simão Dias. He has a bachelor's degree in Biology and a master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology (University of Coimbra, 2013-2018). His master thesis addressed the differentiation and commitment of regulatory T cells in the human thymus, in order to identify novel factors potentially involved in this decision. He used FACS sorted mature CD4 single-positive thymic Tregs and their conventional counterparts from human thymuses and generated their respective genome-wide expression profiles by RNA-seq. As a result, his work allowed the first transcriptomic profile of human thymic Treg and Tconv subsets, with the identification of novel genes with unreported functions in these subsets. He has been working at NOVA Medical School since 2019, in the Allergy, Immunodeficiency, and Translational Immunology lab, under the supervision of Professor Luis Miguel Borrego. There, he has been involved in the laboratory diagnosis of Primary Immunodeficiency and collaborated with several other immunology-related research protocols and projects, funded by national and international grants, mainly concerning reproductive immunology, and autoimmune and infectious diseases. He is also a PhD student in Health Sciences Doctoral Program (NOVA Medical School; 2021 – ongoing), and his project will aim to provide a comprehensive view of the dynamics of immune players during a normal pregnancy.
