Teresa Fidalgo Fonseca received a professional forester degree (Forest Engineer, five years), an M.Sc. in Forest Resources and a PhD in Forest Science from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), Portugal. She has certified training in data science through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (MIT-IDSS), MIT Professional Education's Applied Data Science Programme. She acquired certified training in Training for Trainers specialising in Gender Equality. She is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at UTAD, developing research in Forest Science, namely in biometrics, forest inventory, silviculture, forest management and modelling of forest resources. She is responsible for four courses at UTAD in her area of expertise and has experience as a scientific supervisor of post-doc, PhD, Master's degree and bachelor's students. At institutional level, in UTAD, she was Vice-Coordinator of the Master Course of Engineering of Forest Resources (2019-2021 and 2006-2009), Coordinator of the Forest Engineering Course at UTAD (2006-2009), member of the Scientific Council of the School of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (2017-2021) and Vice-President of the Pedagogical Area of Agrarian Sciences at UTAD (2007-2009). She is a full member of the research centre CITAB - Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences, a collaborator of Forest Research Center (ISA, University of Lisbon) and is an invited researcher of POLUS - Land Use Policy Research Group, certified by the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP, Brazil). She was a full member of the Forest Research Center and a Research Assistant at the Center for Ecosystem Management Studies, CEGE (UTAD). She is a CAPSIS (INRAE, France) - Computer-Aided Projection for Strategies In Silviculture - Community Member in the Modeler category. She has participated in national and international research projects and has authored over a hundred scientific and technical publications. She is Co-Coordinator of Division 1 (Silviculture) of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), former coordinator of WP 1.01.10 Ecology and Silviculture of Pine and deputy of WP 1.01.06 Ecology and Silviculture of Oaks. She represented UTAD as a coordinator member in the Centro de Competências do Pinheiro Bravo, promoted by the Portuguese Government. She represents Portugal in the MC of COST Action CA20118: 3DForEcoTech – Three-dimensional forest ecosystem monitoring and better understanding by terrestrial-based technologies and in the MC of COST Action CA19128 PEN-CaFoRR – Pan-European Network for Climate Adaptive Forest Restoration and Reforestation. She has represented Portugal in the MC of COST Actions: FP1206 (European mixed forests. Integrating Scientific Knowledge in Sustainable Forest Management – EuMIXFOR). FP0609 (Forest models for research and decision support in sustainable forest management) and FP0902 (Development and harmonisation of new operational research and assessment procedures for sustainable forest biomass supply).
