Gil Rocha is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Human Language Technologies Laboratory (HLT) of Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores: Investigação e Desenvolvimento (INESC-ID). At INESC-ID, he is currently participating in the research project Center for Responsible AI. Gil Rocha obtained a Masters Degree (M.Sc.) in Informatics and Computing Engineering (MIEIC) in 2016 from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), with a specialization in the topics of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Multi-Agent Systems. In 2023, he obtained a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Informatics Engineering (ProDEI) from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). During his Ph.D., he worked on the research area of Argumentation Mining, combining techniques from computational linguistics and machine learning to automatically detect, identify, and extract arguments from text. He also conducted research towards the development of robust argumentation mining systems that can be employed across different languages and genres, exploring cross-language and cross-genre approaches. From 2016 to 2023, he was a research member at the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science Research Laboratory (LIACC), participating in several research projects related to Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Argumentation. Gil Rocha published several papers in peer-reviewed conferences and scientific journals. He co-supervised several students at different academic levels (from scientific initiation to M.Sc. thesis). He was a monitor in a B.Sc. course in Artificial Intelligence and invited assistant lecturer in a M.Sc. course in Agents and Distributed Artificial Intelligence (both at FEUP). He was also a monitor at the Lisbon Machine Learning Summer School (LxMLS 2024). He gave several talks as an invited speaker on topics related to Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, and Argumentation Mining. He also participated in the program committee of several scientific conferences (as a reviewer), including top-tier ML and NLP conferences. Gil Rocha is interested in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing; his current research work focuses on the following research topics: Argumentation Mining, Computational Semantics, Transfer Learning, and Cross-Language Learning.
