Ângela Almeida (AA) graduated in Biochemistry in 2013 (14/20) and in 2014 completed a master's degree in Toxicology and Ecotoxicology (16/20), both from the University of Aveiro (UA). After her master's degree, she worked one year (2014 - 2015) as a scientific fellow (reference: BI/CESAM/DBio/RF/2014) in the Department of Biology at UA. In 2016, she was awarded a doctoral scholarship FCT (reference: SFRH/BD/110218/2015, DOI 10.54499/COVID/BD/151581/2021) at UA, allowing her to obtain a PhD degree in Biology and Ecology of Global Change, completed in 2023, with the thesis "Pharmaceutical drugs under present and future climatic scenarios: what are the toxicological effects to marine invertebrate species?". AA's PhD journey was interrupted by 2 maternity leaves. AA has published 33 articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, with a special focus on the area of Environmental Toxicology and intregating Analytical Chemistry. These articles are present in journals in Q1 (indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded of Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science) and are also the result of foreign collaborations such as with IDAEA, Instituto de Diagnóstico Ambiental y Estudios del Agua - CSIC (Barcelona, Spain ). In addition, AA published 2 book chapters in international scientific journals and 1 article in a national magazine journal. AA has an h-index of 23 and 1487 citations, with an average of 36 citations per article (data from Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science Core Collection metrics, November 2024). AA participated in the presentation of 25 communications (oral/pannel) at national and international conferences (as the annual meetings of SETAC) and other scientific/academic events such as workshops or forums (in the latter including a prize for best pitch in the session in which she participated). AA also participated in the execution of tasks in 3 scientific research projects and provided support to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in carrying out their work, which resulted in the publication of co-authored articles. Recently, AA works in the Analytical Chemistry group (Chemistry Department, UA), on the SYNERGY project (DOI 10.54499/2022.02028.PTDC). This role has expanded her expertise, including the synthesis of modified carbon materials as adsorbents for pharmaceutical drug removal from wastewater and the application of chromatographic techniques for environmental analyses. Since 2023, AA has started to be actively engaged in students supervision including mentoring a BSc student (concluded), main supervision of 1 BSc, co-supervision of 1 BSc, and 1 PhD student during a long-term international internship (all on going). During this period, AA attended international conferences with poster/oral communications related to the project. She participated and organized several outreach events, such as academic and wider community dissemination events (e.g. Science Fairs such as European Researcher Night 23) and hosted/visited high schools to give educational talks. AA has participated as a jury member for 2 grant selection and is responsible for the management of the research group’s social media (ASAEC Research Group on Linkedin).
