My passion for Biology of Reproduction started during my pre-doctoral period. I studied how to overcome the reduction of boar semen doses fertility potential associated to over-production of ROS. Therefore, I investigated the usage of antioxidants as additives to improve boar semen conservation (Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2011; Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2013b). During this period, I was visiting researcher at Hannover Vet. School (Germany) to study the antioxidant properties of resveratrol on boar seminal doses and then at Barcelona Vet. School (Spain) (Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2013b). My knowledge in this topic has been recently recognized by the invitation to write a review in the Antioxidants Journal (Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2019). Moreover, I described that sperm extender should be tailored to the boar breed (Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2013a). At that time, I was involved too in the description of AMPK role on sperm functions (Hurtado de Llera et al., 2012; Hurtado de Llera et al., 2013; Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2013c; Hurtado de Llera et al., 2014; Hurtado de Llera et al., 2015; 2016) as well as its role during boar semen preservation at 17ºC (Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2013c). I also was team member of a project aiming to study of the environment contaminant effects of 17-alpha-ethynylestradiol on fish spermatozoa (Gil Anaya et al., 2015; Oropesa et al., 2015). By the end of my doctoral period I acquire a significant expertise on several biology molecular techniques (i.e. Western blotting, flow cytometry, …). My doctoral thesis title “Boar perm physiology during long period preservation at 17ºC” obtained the qualification of Cum laude (max. grade) with European mention. To gain independence, I performed my first Postdoc under the supervision of Prof. Visconti (University of Massachusetts, USA) where, I learned multiple ARTs, as IVF and embryo transference. It resulted in a publication where we described a manner to bypass male infertility situations by modification of the capacitation media (Navarrete et al., 2019). I also established important international collaborations with top andrology laboratories in Mexico (Orta et al., 2018), Chile (Aguila et al., 2017) and Argentina (Luque et al., 2018). After a short period in Extremadura University (Spain), where I described by first time phospho-proteome differences on low and high motile spermatozoa (Martin-Hidalgo et al., 2020) and I gained important proteomic skills. Due to my growing interest in sperm energy management I started my second Postdoc at the Sertoli Cell´s Lab at UMIB-ICBAS/UP, which is internationally recognized by its research on several aspects that control the metabolism of testicular cells, with a major implication on sperm quality and it is where I am receiving formation to complete my skills as an independent researcher. Nowadays, I am preparing the submission of a patent regarding ARTs. In summary along my shorth post-doctoral research career I have published 24 articles with nearly 400 citations. Moreover, I was invited to attend and present my research work in several conferences on animal reproduction physiology and ARTs as ESDAR, Gordon Conferences,… Moreover, I actively participate in the scientific life as reviewer of different journals as: Scientific Reports, Reproduction Fertility Development, Toxicology of Reproduction, Theriogenology, and Animal Reproduction ScienceMy expertise as Reproductive Biologist has been recognized by the obtention of an award (2019) to attend the exclusive Frontiers in Reproduction Course (University of Chicago, USA) and a recent invitation to serve as Guest Editor on a Special Issue about ART in the journal Animals (Q1 in Veterinary Sciences). Nowadays, I´m planning to stay in academia and I would like to continue my scientific career pathway investigating different ways to overcome men infertility and improve livestock fertility outcome.
