My scientific journey started with the internship in the end of my bachelor’s degree at the Immunogenetics Laboratory in ICBAS. There, I was able to develop my skills when it came to several biochemical techniques such as: real time PCR, nucleic acid extraction, quantification and purification of RNA, cDNA synthesis. In this project, I aimed to contribute to a better understanding of the neuroinflammation that occurs in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis. My scientific journey continued in my master’s degree- especially during my internship at CIPsi, Centro de Investigação em Psicologia, University of Minho in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. In this project, I got acquainted with a variety of useful tools in the field of psychology (fMRI) and acquired knowledge in MATLAB programming platform, including SPM. During my thesis, I investigated the neural correlates of affective resonance in adolescents with varying levels of Callous-Unemotional (CU) traits. Later, as a research fellow on the “Electrophysiological characterization of C-Tactile stimulation and its interaction with pain” project I learned EEG, ECG,EDA collection and analysis. I was responsible for processing and analyzing the data (using Matlab-EEGlab among other platforms). I am currently a PhD student investigating the analgesic effects of affective touch on pain paradigms foundational to chronic pain conditions. This study employs both individual and dyadic approaches, incorporating EEG, ECG, and EDA data collection to explore these effects comprehensively.
