Cátia A. Sousa is graduated in Chemical Engineering by the Institute of Engineering of Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP-IPP) in 2013 and has a PhD degree in Environmental Engineering by the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, December 2019 (FCT grant SFRH/BD/ 101452/2014). Since April 2019, C.A. Sousa is an Invited Adjunct Teacher at ISEP-IPP. C.A. Sousa also works in the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE) group of Dr. Manuel Simões to work on biofilm development and planktonic microalgae for bioremediation of nutrients and contaminants, particularly emerging contaminants (Jan 2020-Present), recently as external collaborator (25 % - since 2022). C.A. Sousa published more than 25 papers in international peer reviewed journals, accumulating more than 530 citations to yield an H index of 15 (Scopus). C.A. Sousa supervised one PhD student (on going), several Master students, students in a Summer Internships, several students in curricular units of the Integrated Master's degree in Bioengineering of FEUP (academic year 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024)) and several students in a Curricular Internship in ISEP-IPP since 2022. C.A. Sousa is also reviewer of international journals referenced by ISI Journals (such as Chemical Engineering Journal, Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Pollution, Biofouling, Nano-Structures & Nano-Objects, Journal of Applied Microbiology, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Research in Microbiology, Analytical Biochemistry and Annals of Agricultural Sciences).
