Ricardo received his Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in 2017. His master's dissertation titled: "Desenvolvimento de membranas magnéticas para tratamento de cancro" was supervised by Prof. Dr. João Paulo Borges and co-supervised by Dr. Paula Soares. This work focused on the development of polymeric composites with heating ability to perform magnetic hyperthermia applications. It also resulted in a published article titled: "Electrospun composite cellulose acetate/iron oxide nanoparticles non-woven membranes for magnetic hyperthermia applications". Ricardo's interest in nanotechnology and biomaterials applied to medicine kept him keen on following the research field of his master's thesis. This way, in 2018 Ricardo was awarded a PhD fellowship (SFRH/BD/140090/2018) to conduct a project titled “Magnetic bioactive glass-based 3D systems for bone cancer therapy and regeneration”, once more under the supervision of Prof. Dr. João Paulo Borges, and co-supervised by Dr. Paula Soares and Prof. Dr. Jorge Silva. Currently, he has enrolled as a research fellow in the Soft and Biofunctional Materials Group (SBMG) at CENIMAT|i3N. His main research interests are polymeric electrospun composites, magnetic hyperthermia, drug delivery, bone regeneration, superparamgnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) and bioactive ceramics.
