Sara Soares is post-doc Researcher at the Epidemiology Research Unit of the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (UIDP/04750/2020), developing her research in the Lab Social Adversity and Health Inequalities, and in June 2024 she will start a contract as a Researcher from the 6th edition of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) from FCT (2023.07197.CEECIND), where she classified in 1/37 in the Health Sciences panel. In 2022 Sara was awarded as a Principal Investigator in Call for R&D Project Grants from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, with the Project H3arts - Moving upstream in the determinants of cardiovascular health: A lifecourse approach using population-based cohorts from three world regions (46 634,19 euros) (2023-2024) and a visiting scholar funded by IACOBUS estancias at University of A Coruña. Her main interests are in the field of Social Epidemiology, with a focus on social inequalities, cardiovascular epidemiology and intergenerational transmission of health inequalities. Sara has transdisciplinary training with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences, an MSc in Pharmaceutical Medicine, a PhD in Public Health, and a path in research where she developed an in-depth understanding of current knowledge and challenges in social epidemiology. She have co-authored 27 articles in peer-reviewed journals (10 of which as first author) and several abstracts in conference proceedings, totalizing 812 citations (h-index=10). Sara is co-author of 4 book chapters and numerous oral communications and posters presented to national and international conferences. Her work was awarded on various occasions (IACOBUS Papers, 3rd award from ASPHER, 3rd award in TOPRA and Call for Papers CUF) and the PhD work was also acknowledged by communication awards and best doctoral research design from Idea Puzzle/SantanderTotta. She received competitive grants to courses for epidemiology training (31st Residential Summer Course in Epidemiology-Italy; International Ten-Day Teaching Seminar on Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Prevention-USA), Genetic Epidemiology (GWAS studies and whole genome) and Causal Mediation Analysis. Sara participated in national and international projects and consortiums, as a research member in the UNFOLD - In the shadow of violence: a life-course approach to unfold the scars on the body and mind over childhood and adolescence (2022.06837.PTDC), BioAdversity - How childhood social adversity shapes health (PTDC/DTP-EPI/1687/2014) and HINEC (PTDC/SAU-PUB/29567/2017) projects, and as a research fellow in numerous national and international research projects. With these participations, she had the opportunity to meet international researchers and these collaborations are reflected in co-authored scientific articles and communications. Since the last year, Sara is involved in an international network of researchers the Global Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Research Collaborative, coordinated by Darwin Labarthe. The work developed within this collaboration consolidated her role as an investigator and principal investigator in two project sponsored by the Global Health Research Catalyzer Funding from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (September 2021 and January 2023 respectively). Under this collaboration, she was invited to present a work in the Havey Institute for Global Health and submitted a proposal as principal investigator to a Catalyzer grant to support a pilot study on India, Malaysia and Mozambique. She participated in several outreach activities namely, as an invited speaker at different events, and collaborated in results dissemination in national media through radio, television and newspapers interviews, and in social media.
