Eva Domingues research focuses on the treatment of industrial effluents, with greater emphasis on agro-industrial wastewaters. During her PhD she studied the treatment of two real effluents: from the oil extraction industry and swine farming. The approach for treating these wastewaters was based on advanced oxidation processes combined with other chemical and biological processes, namely biofiltration with C. fluminea. The possibility of metals recovery was also evaluated. In fact, from her PhD work and within the SERENA project framework, the candidate was involved in the design and assembly of a pilot wastewater treatment unit comprising Fenton’s process and ionic exchange that is now being operated in an oil extraction company for validation of the technology.
