
Curriculum Vitae
Sílvia Lancha Petronilho
Sílvia Petronilho obtained her PhD in Chemistry, in 2015, at the University of Aveiro (UA). From January 2016 to June 2017,
she had the opportunity to teach High School and BSc students in the areas of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biomedical Sciences.
She developed her FCT postdoc grant from July 2017 to October 2023 at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD),
in collaboration with UA. Since November 2023, she has been a Doctorate Researcher (Level 1) at LAQV&CICECO/DEMaC at UA. Her
research focuses on the valorization of non-edible agrifood byproducts by developing advanced biomaterials for food and biomedical
applications. She is also engaged in the biological valorization of lipid-based industrial waste for polyhydroxyalkanoates
(PHAs) production by mixed microbial cultures. She has been developing high-quality scientific work, translated under the
supervision of 5 PhD students (2 ongoing), 8 MSc (2 ongoing), and 22 BSc students in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Biomedical
Engineering. She published 24 scientific articles (including 3 reviews) in peer-reviewed journals (h-index of 12 - 450 citations,
Scopus: September 2024). She published 2 more research articles, as 1st author, in technical-scientific journals at the editors'
invitation. She was also the author/co-author of 2 patents (WO/2012/069888 A1 and PT 105390), 1 book chapter, more than 100
communications in international and national congresses (oral and poster communications) and media (TV, newspaper, radio,
and online platforms), and has participated in several dissemination actions, as TechDays, IntegraTech, and UAOpenCampus.
She also participated in different I&D projects and belonged to the organization of scientific congresses (International:
EPNOE junior 2022; EPNOE, 2019; National: 5th ENC, 2007) and workshops, at UA. She has international exposure proven through
collaborations and internships at different Universities and Research Institutes. She belongs to the Editorial Board of Foods
(IF2022=5.561) as Topic Editor and is Guest Editor of 2 Special Issue (one finished with 14 published papers and 1 ongoing).
She has been integrated as a member of 3l COST Actions. She won several awards, including the Gold Award at ECOTROPHELIA PORTUGAL
(July 2022, Porto) and the Silver Award at ECOTROPHELIA EUROPE (October 2022, at Sial, Paris) with the mentoring of the Handy
Rice, a starch-based product, and she won an Honorable Mention at Dare2Change International Conference (March 2023, Porto).
She has also been jury of MSc grant applications and academic degrees.
