Castorina Silva Vieira is Associate Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal. Director of the Construction Materials Laboratory at FEUP. Head of Construction Materials Division of the Civil Engineering Department. Executive Vice-President of the Board of the "Institute for Sustainable Construction - ICS"; Deputy Secretary of the Portuguese Geotechnical Society ( 2020-2024). Vice-President of the Portuguese Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) (since 2021-2024). Integrated Member of the research unit CONSTRUCT - Institute of R&D in Structures and Construction. Member of several Technical Committees: CEN/TC 189 - Geotextiles and geotextile-related products; ISO/TC 221 - Geosynthetics; Portuguese Aggregates Technical Commission (CT154-IPQ), Portuguese Waste Technical Commission (CT 209-IPQ). Member of Technical Committees of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (TC 207, TC218, TC307) and International Geosynthetic Society (TC-R). Currently her major research interests are "Circular Economy in Built Environment", "Sustainability in Geotechnical Engineering", "Use of recycled aggregates from Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste", "Soil/geosynthetic interaction" and "Geosynthetic reinforced structures". Associate Editor of the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering (ASCE) and Environmental Geotechnics (ICE Publishing), and Editorial board member of Transportation Infrastructure Geotechnology (Springer), Sustainability (MDPI), Advances in Civil Engineering (Hindawi) and Frontiers in Built Environment (Frontiers). She is author/co-author of several scientific papers published in International Journals and Conference Proceedings.
