Miguel M. Santos received his PhD in chemistry in 2013 by the University of Aveiro on the molecular recognition of inorganic and organic anions by amide- and urea-containing azacalix[2]arene[2]triazines and isoftalamides. Since March 2015 he is a researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE and NOVA School of Sciences and Technology focusing on the synthesis and characterization of novel Ionic Systems and biopolymers for pharmaceutical and health applications. He is currently a Junior researcher under the scope of the project "Active Pharmaceutical Ionic Liquids as new platform for Effective Treatment of Tuberculosis (TB-ILs)¿ Ref. PTDC/QUI-QOR/32406/2017, on which he develops novel ionic formulations of antitubercular drugs with enhanced bioavailability and therapeutic activity. He published 18 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 3 book chapters (h-index: 11; citations: 255 - Google Scholar). His work was the subject of 13 oral presentations and 20 posters at international and national conferences. He has co-organized one national and one international conferences. He is guest editor of the Pharmaceutics Special Issue s"Ionic Liquids and Deep Eutectic Solvents for Application in Pharmaceutics(Vols. I & II)" and "Therapeutic Formulations of Repurposed Drugs against COVID-19". He has peer-reviewed papers for Nanomaterials, Pharmaceutics, Metals, Sustainable Chemistry, ACS Infectious Diseases, Molecules, Biomaterials, PLOS One and International Journal of Molecular Sciences. He is also topic editor at MDPI and editorial board member of Int. J. Pharm. Chem.(SPG). He is the Principal Investigator of 1 funded ongoing project (ILs4Treatment - 'Repurposed antimalarial and anti-Ebola drugs as Organic Salts and Ionic Liquids to prevent and fight COVID-19' RESEARCH4COVID-19 2ª edição n. 582) and 3 other projects as Researcher. His pedagogical skills include supervision of 10 BSc, 5 MSc and 2 PhD thesis, as well as classes in Applied Chemistry and General and Inorganic Chemistry at Lisbon Polytechnic School of Health Technologies as Invited Professor.
