André F. Moreira is an Invited Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda and Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior (UBI). He obtained his BSc (score: 15 out of 20; 2012) and MSc (score: 17 out of 20; 2014) degrees in Biomedical Sciences from UBI. The MSc dissertation focused on the production of pH-responsive mesoporous silica nanoparticles for the dual-drug delivery to cancer cells. In 2014, he was awarded with a Santander Totta/UBI scholarship (10 months) followed by a PhD fellowship from FCT in October of 2015. In December of 2019 he completed the Ph.D. in Biochemistry at UBI with the highest grade (Excellent). During this period, he pioneered in the development of layer-by-layer microneedles and gold-silica nanomaterials for the chemo/photothermal therapy of cancer. Since then, he has been coordinating the work of 4 PhD students and 1 MSc students (supervisor or co-supervisor) in the area of: novel biomaterial-based solutions for tissue regeneration (skin and bone) and biomimetic cellular coatings of gold-based nanomaterials for the combinatorial cancer therapy. Moreover, he completed several workshops/courses: e.g., NMR in biological systems (2016), Python and Data Science (2019), Scientific Writing (2019), ORPHEUS Supervision (2023), Demola International Project Studies (2023), SPCAL Practical Course in Laboratory Animal Science for Rodents (2023), and Bacterial Biofilms (2024). So far, André F. Moreira has published 4 book chapters, more than 50 articles (85% in top 10 or Q1 journals; 10 as 1st or shared 1st authorship; and more than 15 as corresponding author), and was cited more than 3200 times (h-index 28; Scopus). He was also the recipient of several awards/recognitions, including the presence in the 2023, 2022, and 2021 "World's Top 2% Scientists" list, 2 best poster awards (1 as author and 1 as coauthor), the Blue Bio Value Ideation 2022 (Porto, 2022), and the SCIENT Entrepreneurship Academy and Business Competition (Cyprus, 2017). He is one of the inventors in 1 international patent, evaluated 1 research project for ANI (Portugal), and joined the Reviewer Board of Nanomaterials (ISSN ISSN 2079-4991; IF=5.076), where he is also Guest Editing a Special Issue. Co-supervised more than 10 MSc theses and more than 10 BSc projects and he is currently supervising/co-supervising 4 PhD and 1 MSc students. Moreover, he was member of the jury in 6 MSc theses and the main examiner of 3 MSc theses and 7 BSc projects. Currently, André F. Moreira participates in research teams of different national and international projects, such as WASTESILK, GRAPHY, MiaDrugTox, BIOIMPACE+, and RePo-SUDOE. Otherwise, he also has been enrolled in the lectures of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biomaterials, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Bioprocesses, and Tissue Engineering subjects to BSc/MSc degrees at UBI and IPG.
