Isabel P. Fernandes is graduated in Chemical Engineering by the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) and has completed her PhD in 2017 in Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, being her thesis partially based on the knowledge generated in R&TD projects developed in cooperation with the Portuguese Footwear Technological Centre (CTCP) and companies from the footwear sector. Presently, she is the R&D Coordinator at Tree Flowers Solutions, Lda, a company devoted to the research and production of natural ingredientes and formulations for application on different industrial fields, where she is the principal investigator of TEXTBLUESTYLE projetct (PL23-00065). Formerly she was an integrated member of the Centro de Investigação de Montanha (CIMO) at IPB, where she held the position of Junior PhD Researcher through the institutional scientific employment program-contract. Her scientific work is mainly related with the R&TD activities oriented for industrial applications in different fields, from the development of polyurethane based materials (water-based adhesives, thermoplastic polyurethanes for application on high performance footwear, with industrial scale-up and production; till the development of stabilization/encapsulation processes using different techniques like spray-drying, spray-congealing, spray-coagulation and coacervation, using natural polymers, followed by the validation of the developed solutions in food/cosmetics products formulations, including the antimicrobial activity study and evaluation. Her work generated 42 scientific publications, 1 international patent application (WO2018183150 (A1)) and 1 book (An Integrated Approach for Added-Value Products from Lignocellulosic Biorefineries - Vanillin, Syringaldehyde, Polyphenols and Polyurethane, Springer, ISBN 978-3-319-99313-3) and she was an guest editor of two international journals´special issues.
