I graduated in Biology in 2012. During this time, I joined an internship abroad funded by an Erasmus scholarship at the NOC-University of Southampton, UK. Back in Portugal (2012), I joined the master’s degree at ICBAS-UP where I studied the impact of supplemented diets on fish growth and quality (published work). After, I joined the Fish Nutrition and Immunobiology Group of CIIMAR where I did my PhD in Animal Science-Nutrition focusing on fish immunonutrition. My PhD was under the SANFEED, a program in an industrial setting funded by the FCT and SPAROS Lda., a company devoted to innovate in the development of new fish feeds. My PhD thesis was conducted under the project ALISSA. During this I spent a 3-month stay at the University of Algarve-CCMAR, where I conducted my first trial, rendering two scientific papers. Afterwards, I had an opportunity to enroll in my first secondment at the IATS (Spain) where I analysed samples using the PCR-array platform of the research group of Prof. Jaume Pérez Sánchez, rendering two scientific papers. I was also part of the WiseFeed project - “Improving sustainability and performance of aquafeeds” (H2020-MSCA-RISE-2015), funded by Marie S.-Curie R&I Staff Exchange, in which I spent 1 month in Vietnam, to study supplemented diets with EAA for cobia. I was awarded two prizes within the scope of the dissemination of results. I was the 1st place winner in poster category at the International Conference on Diseases of Fish and Shellfish in June 2019 and I won the best presentation in pitch format at the IV WS of the PhD in Animal Science (Sept.2019). I completed and presented my PhD thesis in June 2020. In 2020 I was hired for a period of 30 months in the framework of the H2020 project–AQUACOMBINE project developing work in the potential of halophytes bioactive extracts as fish and shrimp immune-modulators. This project gave me the moto and skills to write this application. Also, I am the Co-PI of a national exploratory project, AQUAVIP(EXPL/CVT-CVT/0458/2021), which aims to create the tools for the establishment of innovative and sustainable strategies to improve fish antiviral response and resistance to viral pathogens. This project was granted one year after concluding my PhD studies. Currently, I am a team member of 2 FCT SR&TD projects IMMUNAA and INFLAMMAA and 2 other R&D projects: ATLANTIDA and MICROBOOST. I am currently hired in the framework of the EEAGrant project (BreedFlat PT-INNOVATION-0080) and supervisor of a bachelor degree student in the framework of this project. During and after my PhD I collaborated with other PhD’s, provided support to under- and graduate students, and supported several lab services work. In fact, I have been for some time involved in numerous cooperation contracts with industrial partners, such as BIOMAR, PHILEO, and SPAROS, on the subject of immune-stimulating feed additives and vaccines efficacy evaluation. Altogether, I participate in experiments design and coordination, fish trials and RAS maintenance, bacterial challenges, samplings, laboratory, and further data analyses and manuscript writing. At the present date, my team and I are managing two distinct European projects that we were granted last year. The IGNITION project is a consortium of 17 partners (6 MM€) which is also in the framework of this application. And the GRINNAQUA project, a Twinning (1.5 MM€). At this point, I have published 11 papers (5 as 1st author) in peer review journals. I attended 10 international and 7 national conferences, in which I hold 13 oral (from which I was the presenter of 6) and 22 poster communications. I am also a Review Editor for Frontiers in Marine Science (Marine Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Living Resources) and part of the Organizing and Scientific Committee of Animal Health International Symposium of Animal Health (CIIMAR). I was also an invited lecturer on Recognition of Pain, Suffering and Distress, at the CAL-AQUA CIIMAR (FELASA certificated B category).
