Steve Mendes Catarino completed his PhD in Biomedical Sciecnes in 2010/10/22 at the Faculty of Medicine University of Coimbra. He has published 19 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Co-supervised 2 MSc dissertations. Participates and/or participated as a Researcher in 7 projects and as a Scientific Initiation Fellow in 1 project. SC has been doing research at the Faculty of Medicine University of Coimbra since 2002. His main interests include gap junction communication, protein degradation, intracellular trafficking, extracellular vesicles and cardiovascular sciences. His main scientific contributions include the characterization of the intracellular trafficking, post-translational modifications and degradation of the gap junction protein Cx43, and also the physiological implication of Cx43 in cardiovascular diseases.
