Dr. Márcia T. Rodrigues (female) has been dedicated to raising a solid multidisciplinary background in tissue engineering, nanotechnologies, and immune engineering for precision therapies. Dr. Rodrigues is currently Assistant Researcher and lecturer of the Biomedical Eng. MSc degree at 3B´s Research Group, UMinho, Portugal. She graduated in Applied Biology (BSc, 2004), and holds a PhD in Tissue Engineering (TE), Regenerative Medicine (RM), and Stem Cells (UMinho, 2011), under the mentorship of Prof. RL Reis. Her research was focused on bone and osteochondral tissue engineering, leveraging stem cells, biomaterials, and advanced bioreactors. A substantial part of her Ph.D. research was carried out at the globally renowned Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM, USA), under the supervision of Profs A Atala and J Yoo. Post her PhD, Dr. Rodrigues was instrumental in initiating and consolidating new research domains at the 3B´s, on tendon and ligament engineering, and magnetic technologies, led by Prof. ME Gomes. Her studies explored cell subsets prone to tendon lineage commitment, mechano-magnetic stimulation, and scaffold design to mimic tissue architecture. Building on the theranostic value of nanotechnologies, Dr. Rodrigues' current research is focused on modulating inflammatory events. Her major interests include immune-oriented platforms and reprogramming tools for precision and personalized therapies, particularly for musculoskeletal tissues. Her work aims to enhance the integration and longevity of tissue substitutes and medical devices and to support advanced therapies for chronic inflammation-related pathologies. In 2023, she was awarded the highly competitive FCT Stimulus of Scientific Employment (CEEC) to pursue her studies on inflammation and miRNA delivery. Throughout her career, she has been the recipient of 3 individual fellowships. She has held roles in research, dissemination, mentoring, and management in competitively funded national and international projects (EC, MagTendon-ERC, FCT, >6.8Meuro), fostering collaborations with academia and industry, and facilitating high-end research. Since 2018, she has served as a scientific evaluator of EC research projects (>3Meuro). Dr. Rodrigues holds institutional responsibilities as a member of the Council Board of I3Bs, UMinho (2022- ), and serves on the selection jury for international projects. Her roles extend to managing research labs/facilities and related major equipment, as well as training graduate students. Dr. Rodrigues has delivered lectures at workshops, post-graduate courses, and Master, National Doctoral, and MIT/PT Programs. She has coordinated outreach activities and has supervised young and senior researchers from different backgrounds, promoting national and international partnerships. Currently, Dr. Rodrigues supervises 1 PhD student and mentors 1 PhD student and 3 post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Rodrigues has made significant contributions to the scientific community, serving on the scientific committee and organizing 8 international events, and acting as a symposium and session chair. Her international recognition includes the edition of a textbook on Tendon Regeneration (Elsevier, 2nd edition ongoing) and invited conference lectures. She serves on the Editorial Board of the IJMS and has acted as a theme editor for 2 special issues (combined IF>21). Dr. Rodrigues' research has been widely published and recognized. She has authored 54 international peer-reviewed papers, including 8 as the corresponding author. Her work also includes 3 featured articles, 12 book chapters, a chapter for a TE&RM Encyclopedia, and a journal cover. She has also made >100 communications with abstracts in proceedings and/or peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of several professional societies and serves as a scientific referee for international conferences and >25 major journals in her field. Her work has been cited >3250 times, and she has an h-index of 30.

  1. Injectable hyaluronic acid hydrogels enriched with platelet lysate as a cryostable off-the-shelf system for cell-based therapies. Cell-based regenerative medicine strategies hold a great potential to revolutionize the treatment of a large number of injuries with limited regenerative potential. However, the effectiveness of the simple injection of a cell suspension in a target site/tissue of action is often limited by the dispersion of cells toward other tissues, hindering their therapeutic action. Nevertheless, the developme. 2017. Neves, Lisete S.; Babo, Pedro Miguel Sousa; Gonçalves, A. I.; Almeida, Raquel Costa; Caridade, Sofia Glória Ferreira; Mano, J. 3. Current approaches and future perspectives on strategies for the development of personalized tissue engineering therapies. Personalized tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM) therapies propose patient-oriented effective solutions, considering individual needs. Cell-based therapies, for example, may benefit from cell sources that enable easier autologous set-ups or from recent developments on IPS cells technologies towards effective personalized therapeutics. Furthermore, the customization of scaffold mate. 2016. Neves, Lisete S.; Rodrigues, Márcia T.; Reis, R. L.; Gomes, Manuela E.. http://hdl.handle.net/1822/40927.
