DUARTE MIGUEL FERREIRA MARTINS

I am a taxonomy lover interested in natural history, museomics, evolution, phylogeny and doing expeditions. I finalized my Bachelor in Biology in 2022 at the Science Faculty of the University of Porto and my Masters in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at the Research Center for Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO). Currently, I am assisting with collections at the Museum of Natural History of the Iberian Peninsula (NatMIP), where I have been helping for more than four years. Furthermore, I am integrated with the groups River and Coastal Ecology (RACE), from CIIMAR, and MARCHANGE, from CIBIO. During my bachelor's, I participated in the undergraduate program Blue Young Talent (BYT), working on the ecology of the diadromous fish Allis shad on the Minho River. Now, my focus has been on discovering the Iberian coastal fauna through integrative taxonomy, where my Master's thesis integrated DNA barcodes and taxonomy to tell the story of polychaetes and pycnogonids surrounding the understudied and endangered rhodolith ecosystems. I am a co-author of 2 index publications and a book.
