Eduardo Alexandre Pereira da Silva, BSc in Biochemistry and MSc in Applied Biochemistry by the University of Minho. Eduardo Silva completed his BSc ( Final grade of 16) in 2015 and immediately continued his academic journey by enrolling in the Applied Biochemistry - specialization of Biotechnology MSc, coordinated by both the Biology and Chemistry department of the University of Minho. The completion of the MSc came about in December 2018 with the defense of the Master thesis entitled " Effects of radiation on the molecular dynamics of Pseudomonas aeruginosa", being award a final grade of 17 out 20. During the thesis years, he acquired several skills in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, proteomics, functional genomics and metagenomics. Posteriorly, he held the position of Investigator, via a grant under the scope of the DES-ZYME project, at the Research Institute on Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics of University of Minho (I3Bs). The work developed was focused on the exploration of natural deep eutectic solvents as agents to potentiate therapeutic activity/effects of active pharmaceutical ingredients, among which antibacterial activity which resulted in several publications. During this time he also participated the writing of a review focusing on light-based therapeutics more specifically, in the use of light as a trigger for on-cue drug release systems and spatiotemporal restriction of drug activity, which resulted in the co-authorship of the article entitled "Light-triggered release of photocaged therapeutics-Where are we now?" published in the Journal of Controlled Release ( 5-year impact factor : 8.863). Currently, he holds the position of PhD student at I3BS, under the scope of the TERM&SC PhD program. His work revolves around the use of light-based therapeutics for the treatment of bacterial infections with emphasis on the development of platforms with on-demand light-triggered antibacterial activity and novel approaches for traditional light-based therapies (e.g. antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy)
