For the past decade, my research has focused on understanding molecular mechanisms of neuro-regeneration and neuro-degeneration using in vitro primary neuronal cultures and in vivo mice models. My ambitious and highly innovative long-term goal is to elucidate key spatial and temporal signaling mechanisms, including axonal transport and local protein synthesis events, that are key in motor neuron survival and neuromuscular-junction maintenance under normal and pathological conditions such as ALS. I am highly motivated to lead my research team to perform high quality research and to make a significant contribution to scientific knowledge. I have the knowledge and technical skills that are required to accomplish the objectives set out here. I was fortunate to obtain a significant number of competitive grants from both national and international research foundations that provided essential background for the current application, specifically setting up a compartmental microfluidic platform of motor neuron-muscle co-culture system, and finding that muscle contribute to ALS pathology. I am the author of numerous publications and invited speaker to leading international meetings. I also serve as an ad-hoc reviewer to many international funding agencies, and scientific journals. Since my beginning of my independent PI position at October 2010 in TAU, I have mentored 3 Postdocs, 9 PhDs, 11 MSc graduate students and 19 undergraduate students. In parallel with my research efforts, I also teach both undergraduate and graduate courses for both life sciences and medical students and involve in numerous academic committees.
