Luis Pereira is a PhD in Microelectronics and Optoelectronics - Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2008) and Invited Associate Professor at FCT-NOVA. The versatility and initiative demonstrated throughout its scientific career have been very important in building up expertise in different fields, complementary or even distinct from that in which he began his career. Since the beginning, Luis Pereira was able to promote new ideas and implementing them in my research activities. Still during the PhD work, Luis was pioneer in implementing high-k dielectrics in oxide-based thin-film transistors (TFTs). This work contributed to the first oxide semiconductor-based TFT entirely produced at room temperature (all layers), that was presented in 2003 at ICAMS20. Oxide TFTs are nowadays a standard technology in high definition active matrices OLED and LCDs. Luis Pereira started his postdoctoral activities in 2009, that was coincident with his first project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. This grant allowed Luis to start promoting his ideas as an independent researcher. During that period, Luis was involved in the first demonstration of oxide transistors on using paper, simultaneously, as dielectric and substrate. This resulted in one patent and several publications both as author and co-author on relevant journals such as IEEE, Applied Physics Letters, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials. In 2012 Luis gained a position as Assistant Professor at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and settled his research team on printed and paper electronics. Since then, Luis has been exploring cellulose-based materials both as substrate and constituent of electronic devices, including the use of printing techniques. He has been granted in 2015 with a Starting Grant of the European Research Council (ERC). The ERC-StG (NewFun, proposal 640598) was focused on the development of new cellulose/oxide nanocomposites towards a new paradigm in printed electronics. The ERC-StG had a high impact in his career since it allowed to establish a new lab and enrich the research team with new members, leveraging the research activities, translated in recent publications in high-impact factor journals. Current interests are on the design and synthesis of 1D, 2D and 3D inorganic and hybrid nanostructures, cellulose nanocomposites, functional micro and nanofibers, and its integration electronic, chromogenic and energy related devices. Currently he is Technical and Scientific Director of the collaborative laboratory AlmaScience, Coordinator of the Materials Engineering College-Portuguese Professional Engineer Association – South Region, Vice-president of the TCM-Net, and member of the board of the Portuguese Materials Society (SPM).
