José P.B. Silva is an Assistant Researcher at Centro de Física das Universidades do Minho e do Porto (CF-UM-UP) since March 2023. Prior this, he worked as junior researcher at CF-UM-UP from March 2019 to Feb 2023 and as a post-doctoral fellow (FCT SFRH/BPD/92896/2013) at Materials Physics Institute of the University of Porto (IFIMUP), Porto and University of Minho, Braga from Sept 2014 to Feb 2019. Currently, his research focuses on understanding the relationship between structure and functionality of ferroelectric oxide thin films for memory, sensing and energy storage applications. He is author/co-author of 87 indexed papers (Scopus) in peer review journals including prestigious ones like ACS Energy Lett., Adv. Funct. Mater and Nano Energy and 5 book chapters. He has a h-index of 23 and i10 index of 59. He is an Editorial Board Member of Discover Materials (Springer Nature), was also invited to be guest Editor of two special issues in Materials and also acts as referee of international journals such as Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Small, ACS Appl. Mater. Interf., APL Materials, etc. He gave 22 invited/plenary talks, 41 oral presentations and >28 poster communications in conferences. His research was distinguished as contributing to excellence in science and engineering research by Advances in Engineering and CERIC-ERIC. He was considered an Emerging Investigator for Journal of Materials Chemistry C in 2024 and, in 2023, got the recognition award for the impact of scientific research, which distinguishes the quality, volume and national and international recognition of scientific production carried out by a researcher or professor at the School of Sciences of UMinho. Also noteworthy is the international recognition associated with inclusion in the list of the 2% most cited authors worldwide, drawn up by Standford University/Elsevier in 2024. He was nominated Portuguese MC member of the COST actions CA20116, CA19140, CA18234, CA18203, MP1406, IC1401 and MP1308 and made 6 short-term scientific missions (STSM) and was a visiting researcher at several Universities/Research Institutes . He collaborates with several national and international recognized Institutions around the world and initiated new collaborations with world-renowned scientists, such as Prof. J. Driscoll (Univ. Cambridge), Prof. Robert Hoye (Univ. Oxford), Prof. Bilge Yildiz (MIT, USA), Prof. J. Íñiguez (Luxembourg Institute of Technology) and Dr. Florencio Sánchez (Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona). He was PI of research projects at the Central European Research Infrastructure Consortium, Karlsruhe Nano Micro Facility, Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie, Nanoscience Foundries and fine analysis (NFFA-Europe) and ASCENT+. He was PI of two Bilateral projects (Portugal and Morocco (FCT-CNRST /2019-2020) and Portugal e France (Programa Pessoa 2022/2023)). He is the PI of an european project (M-ERA-NET3/0003/2021), a Portugal MIT project, and a FCT exploratory project (2022.01740.PTDC). He is the co-PI of a Marie-Curie doctoral network (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-DN-01– MASAUTO), and member of the research team of two FCT research projects PTDC/NAN-MAT/28538/2017 and PTDC/NAN-MAT/0098/2020. He supervise(d) 1 pos-doc, 1 PhD student, 9 students in their Graduated Projects and 11 students in their Master's theses (Materials Engineering/Physics courses at UMinho) and was/is also (co-)supervisor of 16 Master/Bachelor fellowships under FCT projects or from research grant at CF-UM-UP. He supervise(d) 5 PhD students from the University of Gabes, Tunisia, in their research internships at CF-UM-UP. In the last five years, he has taught Physics lab lectures to different courses at UMinho. Moreover, he has been deeply involved in outreach activities to the Civil society.
