Clara Lázaro holds a Ph.D. in Surveying Engineering (2008) from the University of Porto, Faculty of Sciences (FCUP). She received a Master of Sciences degree in Remote Sensing in 2003 and a degree in Surveying Engineering from the FCUP. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Geosciences, Environment and Spatial Plannings, FCUP, and a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) of the University of Porto. Her research interests lie primarily in Geodesy and Remote Sensing, particularly Satellite Altimetry. From 1992 to 1994 she was a research trainee at the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Porto (OAUP). From 1994 to 1999 she was a research trainee at the Centre of Geodesy of the Institute of Tropical Scientific Research (IICT). During this period (1992-1999), Clara Lázaro was involved in several research projects in the fields of Geodesy and Geodynamics, with emphasis on the integration of micro-gravity and geodetic data (e.g., GNSS) for seismologic and volcanology studies at Azores and Cape Verde archipelagos. Presently, her main research interests include: - analysis of oceanographic fields derived from Satellite Altimetry, particularly for sea level studies; - mesoscale processes in Atlantic current systems from Remote Sensing data synergy, primarily Satellite Altimetry and Remote Sensing imagery; - improvement of tropospheric corrections for application in Coastal Satellite Altimetry; - analysis of atmospheric corrections for altimetry studies over inland water bodies. During the last 20 years, she has been involved in several research projects, either as PI, task leader, or research member, mainly funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), FCT, and EUMETSAT, and has published articles on the development of improved tropospheric correction for Satellite Altimetry and on the use of Satellite Altimetry for ocean and climate studies. She is a member of the FCUP's Satellite Altimetry team that developed the DComb and GPD+ methodologies for the calculation of improved wet tropospheric corrections for Satellite Altimetry, which have been adopted as standards for the generation of improved datasets e.g. CryoSat-2 and Sentinel-3 missions and to generate the ESA Sea Level CCI dataset, suitable for climate studies. She is a Sentinel-3, Sentinel-6, and SWOT Science Team member. Clara Lázaro is currently the director of the MSc in Surveying Engineering (FCUP).
