Ryan Donnelly. Completed a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1999 and a PhD in Pharmaceutics in 2003, both by Queen's University Belfast. Full Professor, Chair of Pharmaceutical Technology at Queen's University Belfast. Published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 23 book chapters, 6 books and 6 patent applications. His h-index is 53 (i-10 index =165) and his work has been cited over 9300 times. The innovative nature of his research is evidenced by receipt of > £10 million in research funding, being Principal Investigator in over 100 awarded grants and contracts with national and international funding agencies and pharmaceutical companies. His work has granted him several awards, including the Controlled Release Society Young Investigator Award (2016), the BBSRC Innovator of the Year Award (2013) and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Science Award (2011), among others. His research interests lie in the design, characterisation and industrial translation of polymeric drug delivery systems, with a particular emphasis on microneedle arrays for transdermal administration of "difficult-to-deliver" drugs and intradermal delivery of vaccines and photosensitisers. His work is multidisciplinary in nature and his current Research Group comprises chemists, biologists, engineers and pharmacists.
