Célia Pais has PhD in Biology/Microbiology from the University of Minho (1990) and a post-graduation in Plant Pathology from the Imperial College, London. She has been Associated Professor with Habilitation at the Biology Department, University of Minho, presently retired. She has been Head of the Biology Department (1998-2002; 2012-14), Coordinator of the Center of Biology (1998-2000), Vice-President of the School of Sciences, University of Minho (2002-06) and coordinator of the PhD Programme in Environmental and Molecular Biology, from 2008 to 2012. She develops her research activity at he CBMA, being main research focus on the study of biochemistry, molecular biology and yeast diversity. Her lab described a new species of pathogenic yeast, Candida bracarensis, and developed new molecular tools for differentiation of several yeast species and complexes. She participated in twenty research projects and in international networks as principal investigator or participant, and was evaluator for several international funding agencies. She supervised numerous master's and doctoral theses and is the author or co-author of around a hundred publications in specialised journals, book chapters and international conferences. In terms of scientific dissemination, she developed several activities, having been coordinator of the European Project Forward Science 2004. Since 2018, she has been a member and Vice-President of the Ethics Committee for Research in Environmental Sciences of the UMinho Ethics Council, having coordinated the group responsible for the preparation of legal and regulatory framework documents in this area. She also participated in the review of the UMinho Code of Ethical Conduct (CCEUMinho V2 2020).
