Rita B. Santos completed her in PhD in Biology - Biotechnology in 2018 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica. Since 2019, she is a Post-Doc Researcher at Grapevine Pathogen Systems Lab at Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências. As a plant biochemist/biotechnologist, her research interests are to understand the role of plant proteome and secretome in plant-pathogen interactions and the molecular mechanisms that trigger the plant's defense. Rita's research also focus in the relevance of the epigenetic landscape of grapevine to boost stress resistance. She is presently focused on unravelling protein-protein and DNA-protein interactions, mainly involving plant proteases and plant histone, in the grapevine-downy mildew pathosystem model, using biotechnology approaches. Rita has published 19 articles and two book sections. She has supervised three MSc dissertations and co-supervised another three MSc students. She is the PI of a BioISI internal project and has participated as Co-PI in one FCT funded project. She has also been involved in several national and international projects during her PhD studies and as a Post-Doc.
