Luís Pinto da Silva is an Assistant Professor hired by Faculty of Sciences of U. Porto (FCUP), since 2022, for the subject area of Environment. He is currently the Director of the MSc program in Environmental Sciences and Technology. Before, he was hired by FCUP within the framework of two Individual CEEC contracts: Assistant Researcher (2022), and Junior Researcher (2019-2022). He finished his Chemistry PhD, Approved with Distinction, in 2016 at FCUP, after completing his MSc (2011) and BSc (2009) in Biochemistry. His current research focus are the development of sustainable nanomaterials for photocatalysis-based wastewater treatment, chemiluminescence and its application to cancer therapy, brown carbon and its relationship with climate change, and environmental sustainability assessment. Since the start of his research career in 2011, he published 132 papers in international peer-review journals, which resulted in a h-index of 27. He is/was the supervisor/cosupervisor of 2 post-docs, 9 PhD, 26 MSc and 29 BSc thesis. He was also the supervisor of 8 MSc and BSc extracurricular internships (7 concluded). Finally, he tutored several high-school students in different projects at CIQUP. He is a Topical Advisory Panel Member in international peer-reviewed Journals, while having been Guest Editor in different special issues in international journals. He is the speaker in 14 invited and 23 other oral scientific communications. He possesses an international patent. He has received 13 distinctions, including making the "World's Top 2% Scientists list" in the year 2022. He has been an arguer in PhD/MSc/BSc thesis, and member and president of hiring, thesis and degree recognition juries. He has been an external reviewer in various calls for the Polish National Science Centre. He has reviewed for journals as ACS Appl Mater Interfaces, Adv Funct Mater, J Mater Chem B, Small, J Env Eng Chem, Acc Chem Res, Environ Sci Technol, ChemCatChem, ChemSusChem, Angewandte Chemie, ChemComm, Adv Mater and ACS Sustain Chem Eng. He has been involved in the organization of scientific meetings and dissemination activities, while having been interviewed by several newspapers, and TV and radio broadcasts.
