My professional trajectory began as a systems analyst for the development of digital platforms for industrial programming, business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-consumer (B2C) applications. Notably, the B2B and B2C platforms I contributed were tailored for international markets, particularly in the domain of fashion products. I hold a degree in Computer Science - Applied Mathematics, conferred by Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique in 2001. Subsequently, I attained a master´s degree in computer engineering from the School of Management and Technology at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto in 2012. In 2019, I completed the PhD Program in Industrial Engineering and Management at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, with a specific focus on heuristics for two-dimensional cutting and packing problems. I entered the field of education in 2006, initially serving as an educator in primary and secondary education. In 2013, he transitioned to higher education at the School of Management and Technology. Since 2018, I have been an integral member of the Center for Innovation and Research in Business Sciences and Information Systems. My primary research interests revolve around solving, through heuristic and metaheuristic approaches, combinatorial optimization problems prevalent in various fields, including cutting and packaging problems and location problems. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the research center, I have collaborated with researchers from diverse domains, leading to the publication of articles spanning multiple research areas, namely, Data Science and Machine Learning. Over the past years, I have demonstrated my leadership and organizational skills by undertaking the roles of both Director and Sub-Director for various courses from higher professional technical courses to master´s degree programs. As both a supervisor and co-supervisor, I supervised 3 master´s degree students across diverse fields, contributing to their academic and research development. Additionally, I participated as a member of the jury of several degree and master's thesis presentations. I have contributed to the scientific community through the publication of several articles across multiple domains. Additionally, I was the chair of a session in an international conference and contributed to the scientific committees of others. As a reviewer for some journals, I have contributed my expertise to the peer-review process, ensuring the rigor and credibility of scientific work. I have also been actively involved in national and international projects, funded by institutions of diverse nature. I am the responsible at the Polytechnic of Porto for the project Boosting Entrepreneurial Mindset of Students with Challenge-Based Learning (CBL). The overarching objective of the project is twofold: firstly, to design an entrepreneurship course for students from four European universities, utilizing an innovative CBL Methodology for Entrepreneurship Education; and secondly, to develop and deliver training, materials, and best practices aligned with the CBL framework. The project partners include Businet, WSB University, Romanian-American University, Istanbul Aydin University, and Polytechnic of Porto. In the capacity of both investigator and supervisor of research fellows on research teams, I have successfully concluded one research project, and concurrently, I am actively engaged in another ongoing project. In the completed project, the focus was on distributed machine learning systems, while the current endeavor addresses the critical aspects of data quality and quality of service in industrial contexts. In 2021, I actively participated in the Capacid@de Digital: Rede de Voluntários para a Capacitação Digital do Tâmega e Sousa project, assuming coordination responsibilities in 2022.
