Urbano Miguel Gonçalves Nunes graduated from the Integrated Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2016, with an average grade of 18.26/20. The candidate successfully present his Master's dissertation entitled "Keyframe Based Human Activity Recognition Using Random Forests" with a grade of 20/20, under the supervision of Prof. Paulo Peixoto. In 2022, he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled "Vision-based Kinematic Structure Learning of Arbitrary Articulated Rigid Objects", under the supervision of Prof. Yiannis Demiris (Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies), from Imperial College London, United Kingdom. Since 2021, the candidate works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the project "AgileNeuroBot: Bio-mimetic agile aerial robots flying in real-life conditions" at the Institut de la Vision, Sorbonne University, France, whose principal investigator is Prof. Ryad Benosman, an internationally recognized pioneer in the area of neuromorphic computing and event-based vision. He was one of the founders of the IEEE Student Branch of University, and served as Chair during the 2013/2014 academic year, whereby the annual IEEE Outstanding Student Branch Portugal Section Award was granted in recognition of the exemplary performance. His research interests include a variety of topics, including computer vision, event-based vision, machine learning, and optimization. He is interested in applying this knowledge to equip robots with human-like perception capabilities.

2018/02/06 - 2018/02/15 The aim of this school is to give students an overview of the state-of-the-art on the broad field of robotics and teach them the required, practical, skills that allow them to program robots taking advantage of available tools and libraries for perception, control and machine learning. Humanoid robots (iCub) were used as a testbed, because they offer unique opportunities to study many of the problems that are relevant to the field of autonomous systems.
