Graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Malaga (UMA, Spain) in 2015 (Extraordinary Prize), Master’s in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC, Spain) in 2017, and Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry with International Mention by Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM, Spain) in 2022, Dr. Manuel Peñas Garzón has focused his research on the degradation of emerging pollutants by photocatalysis using solar radiation and new materials based on the TiO2-lignin system and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The lines of research in which he has been working are: i) environmental catalysis; ii) design of composite materials with photocatalytic applications; iii) functional materials from lignin, iv) water purification by solar photocatalysis. During the predoctoral period, he has carried out different stays in international centers within a total of six months (University of Cincinnati, USA, and the University of Porto, Portugal), both funded by Spanish competitive grants. As a result of his research work, participating as an active member in two national projects, he is co-author of 18 publications (8of them as the first author) in different prestigious journals, 3 book chapters, and more than 30 contributions to national and international congresses.
