Tânia Fernandes is Biologist (2015) and Master Molecular and Cell Biology (2017) from the Department of Biology, University of Aveiro (UA). She is a PhD student hired under Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) individual call for PhD scholarship 2019 (SFRH/BD/148801/2019) at Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC)/FMUC and CESAM/UA under the supervision of Dr. Paula Moreira, Dr. Cláudia Pereira and Dr. Rosário Domingues in the field of neuroscience with special focus in lipidomic alterations at ER-mitochondria contacts in Alzheimer disease. During the PhD, she did a 4-month internship in Laboratory of Ca2+ Signalling directed by Dr. Paola Pizzo (Department of Biomedical Sciences, Padua, Italy). In 2014/2015 and 2016/2017 she was research trainee in Laboratory of Cell Cycle and Oncology directed by Dr. Anxo Figueroa Vidal (CiMUS, Santiago de Compostela, Spain). In 2019 she had the opportunity to integrate different project and increase her skills in different areas, through a project fellowship in the area of Alzheimer's disease. Besides her individual research project, she participates in differents projects such as the FCT Exploratory research project (EXPL/MED-FSL/0033/2021) and she was also responsible for laboratory tutoring of degree and master students. Tânia Fernandes is author of two original papers in Biomedicines journal (2021) and in Journal of Neurochemistry (2024), a review in Biology journal (2023), and of a chapter in the book Modulation of Oxidative Stress-Biochemical, Physiological and Pharmacological Aspects (2023). She is also co-author of two papers in Oncotarget journal (2015) and Nature Communications (2024) and two publications in Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Basis of Disease (2020) and in Antioxidants & Redox Signaling (ARS) (2022). Tânia Fernandes also participated in several nationals and internationals scientific meetings and in science outreach activities, namely "Ciência Viva during Summer Holidays", "Brain Awareness Week", and "European Researchers' Night". She was also a member of the GreenKeepers Team at the GreenLabsCIBB Initiative whose mission is to reduce the ecological footprint of scientific activity, involved in the implementation of sustainable daily practices in the laboratory. Presently she is Post-Doc Research Fellow at the Department of Biomedical Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Paola Pizzo.
