Marta Graça is a Researcher and a Science Communicator at the University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research. She is coordinating an exploratory mixed-methods study on public communication of legal research (Legal SciComm), to improve law researchers' skills to communicate with lay audiences, and she is also promoting several activities to connect law, other sciences and society (Plano D - Diálogos com o Direito). She is also a consulting editor for Affilia: Feminist Inquiry in Social Work. She holds a degree in Social Work from the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga, Coimbra, an MSc degree in Educational Sciences - Social Education and Community-Based Intervention, and a Ph.D. degree in Education, both from the University of Aveiro. She has worked as a social worker for almost 12 years in several Non-Governmental Organizations, and has conducted qualitative research with marginalized, vulnerable, and under-researched social groups. As an action researcher, between 2012-2015, she facilitated participatory action research (PAR) with street-based female sex workers and an outreach team. From 2007-2008, she also facilitated PAR with a group of teenagers using theatre and group dynamics techniques, namely Boal's (theatre of the oppressed). She has authored several articles in international peer-reviewed journals, focusing on participatory action research and stigmatized social groups. She previously took a break to take maternity leave and work as a science communication officer at CESAM/UA. She continued sharing and publishing the findings of her work, and was invited to make presentations and review journal articles. She is interested in social, educational, and communication sciences, focusing on gender studies, social movements, human rights, participatory methods, scientific literacy, and public communication of Social Sciences and Humanities (particularly legal research).
