Maria Emilia Carreira Saraiva Monteiro is a Medical Doctor (Universidad de Navarra, Spain) and full professor of Pharmacology at Nova Medical School, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Has a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (1994) by Universidade do Porto (Portugal) and a PhD in Physiology by Universidad de Navarra. She is senior investigator at CEDOC-iNOVA4Health, coordinates the thematic line ¿Cardio Metabolic disorders¿ and is member of the executive committee of INOVA4Health research unit (graded with Excellent by the Portuguese funding agency). Her main scientific interests are pharmacology of cardiovascular diseases related with oxygen disturbances; drug-related adverse effects and research infrastructures for clinical research . Supervised 11 PhD thesis already finished, published 88 scientific articles that generated 1423 Citations and has 3 on going research grants supported by competitive funds (1 ERASMUS+). Presently, coordinates PtCRIN ¿ Portuguese Clinical Research Infrastructure network, integrated in the national and European roadmap of research infrastructures; is member (evaluation of clinical trials) of the National Ethics Committee for Clinical Research (CEIC); is senior clinical and scientific lead of the academic clinical trial unit NOVACRU; is member of the Collaborative-CoLab Trials (a public-private association supported by european infrastructure funds to foster innovation); is member of the scientific council of the ANSM ¿Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Medicament et des Produits de Santé¿ (France) and full member and Treasure of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine representing the academy in FEAM. Was vice-dean for education of Nova Medical School from 2010-2017 and Delegate of Portugal in the FP 7 and Horizon 2020- topic, SC1 "Health, demographic change and wellbeing". Has been involved in the evaluation of research infrastructures in the Czech Republic; member of the ¿Comité Científico Asesor Externo de SCReN¿, (Spanish Clinical Research network); co-director of the Portugal Clinical Scholars Research Training (PTCSRT) from Harvard Medical School (2012-2022); President of the International Society for Arterial Chemoreception (ISAC) and of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology. She is the chair of curricular units in under graduate (Pharmacology in medicine) and graduate programes (Core methodologies in biomedical and clinical research - PhD program in Health Sciences, NOVA Medical School) and involved in several graduate programes in the area of clinical research and pharmaceutical medicine.
